I've always been a little obsessed with food, and it's gottem more obvious now that I'm in college and have control over
my own grocery shopping. I impulse-buy things like Krispy Kreme
doughnuts and Oreos with purple or coffee-flavored icing. I also hoard food, feeling a great sense of
irrational satisfaction when I know that I have enough food in my apartment for the next week-- as if I
didn't live five minutes from a dozen places I could easily get more. When I'm hungry I sometimes have trouble restraining myself from telling everyone repeatedly. Somehow, complaining helps distract me from my stomach, although I know I just need to be patient. Once I finally get my meal, I often eat too fast and wind up feeling a little like I'm full of wet cement. For some reason the "worst" is fried chicken salad. I sometimes shovel it in so fast that it looks like I'm inhaling it. I usually have the next bite ready on my fork headed towards my mouth before the mouthful already inside is barely chewed. And I'm not afraid to eat with my fingers. My favorite foods are pretty diverse. I love skirt steak, a cut of beef so loaded with fat that it barely needs to be chewed-- it's that tender! I'm also a sucker for fried chicken, being raised in the South. And this is really gross, but I like to eat the crusted-over breadcrumbs that are left over in the frying pan afterwards :-P I confess that I'm a lazy person. I'm intellectually and emotionally active, but I never exercise and I don't even understand most team sports, let alone play any. My friends tease me about sometimes taking the campus shuttle buses to go a block down the road. It's hard for me to get motivated to clean my apartment. I spend hours on the Internet talking on newsgroups and chatting with people who share my interests. I'm heavily involved in the online Star Trek fan community, and I've begun collecting the DVD's. When I shop for new clothes, I often have trouble finding things in my size. It gets annoying, but luckily I have collected enough things over the years so that I have an ample wardrobe that fits me properly. Once I was shopping with a friend, and everything I tried on looked ridiculous on me. She made fun of me, but I'm sure she didn't realize how uncomfortable that really made me. Although I have a partner now, I haven't dated many people. I'm planning on getting graduate degrees in plant chemistry and will probably wind up in a career based on environmental research. I also love music and hope to be able to play in community orchestras so that I can keep up with my instrument.

My day always gets off to a great starts when I've been to the gym, which usually happens three times a week.
I start with twenty-five minutes of a rapid succession of different exercises designed to target individual
muscle groups and get the heart pumping (circuit weight training). Then I spend twenty-five minutes on cardiovascular
workout, and twenty minutes to cool down (walking on the treadmill or using the stationary bike).
Exercising makes my body feel more alive, and it makes me more sensitive to the way my muscles work.
Some day I'd like to run in a race, because I can imagine how exhilarating it would be to finish. I don't eat a full meal if I don't feel like I need one; I've eaten something as simple as two waffles for dinner. And sometimes I'm ok with just a snack like baby carrots. Why should I force food down if I'm not hungry? When I go out to eat with my friends, I usually wind up with leftovers. Even at home with my family, my dad teases me about never finishing my plate even if there wasn't that much food to begin with. Personal hygiene is very important to me, and I feel uncomfortable if I go more than 24 hours without showering. I am tidy around my house, and even though I have two cats, even the area around their litterbox is odorless. When I was little, my father and I spent a lot of time outside together. We'd ride our bikes to a baseball field four miles away and start a game, Eventually all the neighborhood kids would join in, and we'd have a lot of fun. He also taught me football, and today I think of him when I root for the Gators. My friends are very diverse. When we hang out, we do things as simple as going out for drinks, or as random as staying up until sunrise having board game competitions. There's even this one guy that I have screaming Kirby matches with on my old-school (don't laugh!) Nintendo system. I love to go to rock concerts and have several souvenir photos of myself getting to meet some of my favorite stars. Within the next few years, I hope to get accepted to and graduate from vet school. I have enjoyed the labwork and the biology that I've learned during my years as an undergraduate, and I look forward to using my knowledge, skills, and great love of animals to help the health of my patients.

It's genetics. Get over it. :-)
Everybody farts, everybody gets wedgies (when your underwear gets stuck in your butt), and everybody gets clumsy from time to time. Why is it that society, or at least movies and television, assume that only fat people lack the ability to hide these social indiscretions from the rest of the world?
